The Tooth Fairy

Ryan @ 5 years 11 months

A few days shy from being 6 years old, Ryan lose his 2nd tooth. He dropped his first milk tooth on the 12 December 2011. So he is pretty seasoned about what’s going to happen the second time round.

Ryan’s first and second milk teeth were extracted by the dentist. The first time we didn’t really get a choice. His permanent tooth was sprouting out so we brought him to the dentist as soon as we felt the bottom central incisor (left) was shaky enough to bid its farewell. Despite appearing a bit scared, the whole dentist experience was fast and uneventful for Ryan. He was a brave boy!

Come second time, he wanted the tooth removed the moment he felt the shake. I persuaded him to be patient so to minimize the pain.

About a week or so later, Ryan told me his tooth is ready. So after his Bao Bei class on the 9th April 2012, we walked into the dental clinic without appointment. It was spontaneous and fortunately there was no other patient at that time. The whole process from the moment we registered to payment took less than 15 minutes. There goes his second bottom central incisor (right). Another milestone! Good job boy.

Dentist checking on his teeth. Apparently Ryan needs a filling on one of his right premolars.

Gau dim!

That night, he said he wants to draw about his visit to the dentist..

Just before he doze off that night, suddenly he jumped out of his bed screaming for his fallen tooth. Why? Because he had forgotten to place the tooth under his pillow for the tooth fairy. Yes, Ryan believes in existence of Tooth Fairies because the first time his tooth dropped, the ‘tooth fairy’ gave him stickers.

This time round, he got this.. (Afterthought: Too generous! Pray he won’t be expecting more in the tooth fairy’s next visit)

Another addition to his tooth album.. See you again, soon?

Eating Dried Fruits

@ 1 year 1 month 3 weeks

Like any normal days I’ll drop Ryan off nanny’s in the morning and hang around a few minutes to catch up with nanny on Ryan’s progress etc etc before bidding bye bye. It’s just impossible to drop and go nowadays because the little fella would held tight to my hand refused to let go. So, have to coax him a bit, distract him with toys etc la… (until today, Ryan still refuses to wave bye-bye to his mummy most of the time. Strangeee).

Conversation:
Nanny: Ryan learn fast hor..
Mummy: Huh.. okay la (deep inside feeling a bit proud la..). Why ar?
Nanny: I taught him once to raise his leg when I put on his pants and he could remember it the next day. Did you teach him at home?
Mummy: (Errmm Ryan knows how to raise his leg when we undress his pants since donno how many donkey months wor..hmm, maybe dressing and undressing different leh) Err, I normally lay Ryan on bed when I put on his pants *slap head*

Ryan on the other hand was busy Eh, Eh, Eh, MM, MM, MM (pointing to the door, held up mummy’s hand insisting to go out…..). I was standing next to Ryan trying to psycho him into staying then the next thing I saw nanny pop a 10 cent size dried fruit into Ryan’s mouth. I swear I almost *pengsan* (fainted). Sooooooooo big piece!!! Nanny then assured me that Ryan has no problem chewing that size of food. Afterall, the lil fella already has like 16 teeth now. Sure enough, Ryan was seen busy chewing chewing, mouth moving left right up down, saliva all dripping giving you the yummylicious look… Oh goshh… can u imagine I still feed Ryan with pureed apple and nanny is already exposing him to all kinds of solid food. I wonder what else Ryan eats in nanny’s place. Sigh… I guess I must really learn to let go, learn to be less protective………. my son is ‘tai kor cai’ (big boy) already…..

Ps: Daddy’s off to HK this morning. MIL is also away on a 6 days holiday to Vietnam. Both will be back tomorrow. So, tonight, just me and Ryan lor….

Ryan’s 12th Tooth is also Out

@ 1 year 1 month 1 week 1 day

Many people has commented Ryan has the most teeth for a baby his age. Hmm.. actually, it’s quite true leh. Maybe has to do with the amount of calcium I took during preggie??? Seriously not sure. Anyways, yesterday I noticed Ryan’s 12th tooth (right canine) is also out so today during his dessert I took the opportunity to attempt a few close ups of his teeth. Below is the best shot I managed. I noticed his right canine has actually grown much more than the earlier spotted left canine. That’s really fast. As of today Ryan has:

  • 4 fully sprouted upper incisors
  • 4 fully sprouted bottom incisors
  • 2 PreMolars (left and right) partially out
  • 1 Right canine – 80% out
  • 1 Left canine – 60% out

Now I really really need to discipline the little fella to a good teeth hygiene. He hates it when I try to clean his teeth. Those who remember the baby toothbrush I bought, well.. I am no longer using that. Finger brush still works the best… *slap head*

Teething Spell Again

@ 1 year 2 weeks 6 days

It’s the teething spell again. This time it’s one after another. Ryan now has 11 teeth in total – right first molar already 80% visible, left first molar 60% and his right canine is just cutting out between his molar and incisors. Gosh.. no wonder the poor fella has been very clingy and cranky over the last week. So many eruptions at one go….

We went to MV again for dinner last night. We walked into Memory Lane with the intention of getting a card. That’s when Ryan landed his eyes on the balloons on display. He started to scream ‘Ehhhh… Ehhh…. Ehhh…..!!!‘ pointing at the balloons. Actually, I have no idea why Ryan just had this *thing* about balloons. He just love them….

Anyways, I assumed I could get an easy way out as usual. What I did was I pulled out one of the balloons and pass it to Ryan and continue my stroll in the store. When about to leave, that was when the whole drama began. Ryan refused to let go of the ballon (usually he’ll just let go.. guess he’s getting smarter now) and started to wail and wail. Everybody was staring at this little drama prince, probably hoping to watch a good spanking show… Kekeke.. nah… anyways, I gave in… afterall, I know he’s been longing for one for quite a while already. But hor.. if you see his *muka sepuluh sen* (pitiful sad face), you would give in too….

Pic taken this morning when mummy refused to carry the little fella. This is an example of the pitiful face Ryan would show his mummy.. Aaah… how could I possibly say no leh…..
