4th Month Check Up

@ 18 weeks

Woohoo.. BB2 turn exactly 18 weeks today. In a blink of eyes, I’m already 4.5 months pregnant. I still remember how I felt time crawls during my 1st trimester especially during the period when I was badly affected by horrible torturous morning sickness for about two weeks; likely due to the progesterone pills (Dhupaston) I was taking. The morning sickness, vomitting in particular, was so dire that I made no qualms about my wish to stay in the toilet all day, saving me the effort walking in and out of toilet. Super tiring and exhausting. :(

As if the nausea and vomitting spells were not bad enough, I also suffered from constant burping. By constant I really do mean as frequent as in the count of burping every few minutes. That lasted for quite many weeks and I was prescribed Antacid to relieve gas in my stomach. That didn’t quited helped. Ginger tea did very little to ease my discomfort either. Poor me.. As dreadful as it was, thankfully 2 weeks or so before my 1st trimester ended, all the morning sickness symptoms I was suffering (burping, vomitting, loss of appetite, nausea, funny awful taste after certain food) were gone. I lost about 4kg as a result, short of 3kg when I was carrying Ryan.

I went for my 4th month check up on 15 August. All went well. I managed to gain a little, 0.7kg since the last check up a month ago.

Separately, BB2 also showed good progress, good size development. That despite my initial fears of the effect on BB2 due to my drastic weight loss. It turns out, BB2 managed to absorb the best from mommy and has been consistently showing a slightly bigger than average in size over the last few check ups. On week 16th, scan showed BB2 was 10 days bigger than the average. *smile*

My tummy is still considerably small and I am still wearing my loose fitting normal clothes. Nonetheless, if the same pattern follows suit, the big chunk of my weight gain will come around 7th month. I hope I won’t gain as much as I did when I was carrying Ryan though (15 kg then!). Hopefully this time round I could maintain weight around 60kg? 10kg gain. Possible? Mmm…..

About a week ago I started having baby flutters too. Ryan was a very active baby back in his womb days. I still remember how I could easily feel and see his frequent jerks and kicks especially in my last trimester. The memories of watching my tummy moves in waves like pattern seemed so vividly recent. That makes me wonder if BB2 will follow the brother’s foot step and become yet another super active baby.

First Dental Visit

@ 40 months, 1 week 1 day

We brought Ryan to his first dentist visit last Saturday. It was an uneventful session. Phew. Prior that day, I had done a few role play sessions with him and showed him pictures found from the clinic’s website. So I’m guessing that helped put him at ease throughout that whole session.

It is a paediatric dentist so the whole place was decorated and pooled with toys and books. Ryan was not shy to make himself at home the moment we stepped in.

After about 15 minutes’s wait, it was Ryan’s turn. I wasn’t sure abbout Ryan but I swear my heart was pounding fast. We were seated down at a corner of the room and dentist started off with some Q and A. He also asked a few questions directed at Ryan to make him feel apart of the session -  whether he brushes his teeth, what color is his toothbrush, what’s his fav food, so forth. To my delight, the two could actually communicate, quite sensibly too. Hubs and I, even the nurses couldn’t stop smiling at some of Ryan’s answers.

He also showed Ryan a mock up teeth and made him count. 20 is the number. The whole Q&A session yielded one main concern and it’s about Ryan’s die hard habit of going to bed with milk in bottle. The dentist explained to Ryan the consequences of it and encourages him to drink from cup. I couldn’t helped but to chuckle when I saw the expression on Ryan’s face when the dentist showed us a picture of teeth cavity. He was nodding his head looking worried and kept pointing and asking questions (why there’s black thing on the teeth, why got holes…. ) during the whole explanation.

After breaking the ice, it was time for the real ‘show’. Ryan was asked to lie down on hubs and the overhead TV with Thomas and Friends show was turned on. Ryan was given the mouth mirror. For a few minutes, he was tasked to help the dentist with it around the mouth. Ryan was sure proud.

After checking, it was found Ryan would need a filling on one tooth (bottom right) and it is highly attributed to the milk intake before bed. Grrrr… Luckily Ryan brushes his teeth at least once a day (night is mandatory, daytime – occassionally depending on his mood and time). I cannot imagine otherwise. He will probably need 20 fillings today. For a child that doesn’t take anything after his last brush, apparently the morning brush is deemed not so important.

Dentist does not encouraged tooth filling on first visit, so we will schedule another day for that purpose. Soon after, another lady dentist took over the session for scaling and polishing. She was so good and patient. She explained and allowed Ryan to touch and feel some of the tools on his finger before her using them on his teeth. While scaling his teeth, dentist noticed Ryan easily tenses up when she touched his rear gum hence explains why he likes to bite the toothbrush when I brush his molars. She taught and encourages me to do more gum exercise for Ryan by inserting my fingers (thumb and index) to massage the gum.

The whole session took about 45 minutes. It was slightly longer than we expected because there were a lot of interaction throughout the session to make Ryan feel comfortable; mostly on non teeth related topics such as which school he goes to, why he gel his hair (no.. we don’t normally doll him up except on special occassion. That day was because we were going for his classmate’s birthday party), any girlfriends (he raised his hand and showed 5 when he was asked the question), etc.. It was really funny listening to the answers Ryan gave – eg how he elaborated to the dentist about mommy being the one who teaches him at home, daddy is the fixer because daddy fixed the lights, etc and him being the cleaner. My boy… has truly grown up.

As a reward for his wonderful performance, Ryan could choose a toy from the magix box. He chose a spiderman toy. He was sure beaming from ear to ear. I asked if he enjoyed the session and would like to come again. He said ‘YES’!  Yay….

… we left the place feeling proud and happy. The $132 paid sure hurts the wallet but it’s worth it seeing that bright little smile on Ryan’s face.

That night onwards, I try to make Ryan drink his milk from his cup. It was a futile effort. Bedtime, he needs his bottle before he’s willing to hit the sack.  Otherwise tons of excuses that he couldn’t sleep, this and that.  So what I did, after his last milk, I made him drink some water to at least rinse off the residue. Hopefully that helps extend the life of his baby teeth.

My First Maternity Clothes

@ (15 weeks 2 days)

I actually don’t intend to buy any maternity clothes this time round as I still have a few pretty new ones at home and knowing I would definitely not be wearing them for another ‘cycle’ it is probably wise not to spend. Having said so when I saw this kimono tunic dress on my good friend Lorraine’s online store, I could not resist. Actually I saw more than one piece that I like but CONTROL, CONTROL, CONTROL. I just ordered a piece from her.

Lorraine is such as efficient lady. She knew about my trip to KL and posted it to me immediately the next day so I could receive the dress on time. That saves me so much on postage. Thanks so much Lorraine.

And here it is…..

@ 15 weeks pregnant with my new maternity dress.

It is a 2 in 1 maternity cum nursing dress. I absolutely loves it. So gals, regardless you’re expecting or a nursing mom, feel free to hop on to Baby Bump Maternity to indulge yourself with something pretty which you absolutely deserves. :D

Yes… I’m expecting

That’s right!! There’s a little angel growing inside my tummy. Finally after years of deliberation, we decided to try for another baby and the good news came on 17 May 2009. Yea, I know that was like almost 3 months ago and I’m already in my 2nd trimester with estimated due date in end Jan. It’s not about taboo or what that we were keeping the news under the radar, just that the 1st trimester had been quite  a roller coaster for me; with varying morning sickness from constant burping (that sucks!), 2 weeks of torturous nauseous and vomitting due to the progesterone pills I was taking then (double sucks!) and the lost of appetite (aahh.. bad but ok la.. can lose weight. LOL. I know, insane.. losing weight during pregnancy?? ).  The last I weighted myself at the hospital was about 2 week ago with 4kg down from my pre pregnancy weight. That’s bad considering my morning sickness this time round was shorter lived compared to the 1st; anyhow *drum roll* I have to say the record still goes to the little king of the house.. I lost 7kg when I was carrying Ryan. Shocking! Having said so, my appetite is getting better now and I think I’ve gained back some pounds over the weeks. So lets hope everything stays good and baby would be able to get as much nutrition from mommy. :D

What about Ryan? He took the news very positively, to my delight of course.  He was extremely overjoyed and curious at the same time. He would ask me everyday if his little ‘brother’ (he assume it’s gonna be a boy since day 1) is growing big, when is little brother coming out, how big is he now etc etc. When he accidentally kicks me, he’ll stroke my tummy and said ‘sayang, i’m sorry‘ to the growing baby. He never grew tired looking at the ultrascan pictures of the little baby. That’s so utterly sweeeeeet and I couldn’t be more pleased and happy. I just hope he stays loving after the baby is out tho…*ngek*
