Finally….

@ 20 months 3 weeks 1 day

After months of procrastination, I’ve finally started doing the Shichida 65 days Math programme with Ryan. I actually bought the materials (which cost me a big bomb) in November last year and they have been sitting around collecting dust all the while until 3 days ago. A lot has been said about the effectiveness of this programme. I really can’t comment as according to the programme manual, one would only be able to appreciate the output in a later stage. At this age (0 – 3 years), it is all about positive input. Hmm.. well, we’ll see.

Ryan’s home practise:

  • 65 day programme (about 10 random dot cards a day – exercise on sequence, addition, subtraction, multiplication)
  • 10 variety dots cards
  • 10 organised dots cards
  • 100 – 200 flash cards of various topics

Sounds a lot but it only takes about 15mins to complete (speed flashing should take no more than 0.5 – 1sec per card). Don’t get me wrong, it’s not that I’m hoping to bring up a gifted genius but take a look around us, it is really getting more competitive as a child today as compared to my days (I remember I only learned ABC in kindy @ age 5). My only wish is hopefully by doing just the little bit more, it’ll be able to provide a better foundation and a headstart for Ryan. Well, let’s hope I’ll be able to keep up with this new year resolution.

  1. I know the cards don’t come cheap. At one point, I was interested in the Glenn Doman baby flash cards but after got to know the price, the idea just gone down the drain.

  2. Hi Yvonne, I have done a lot of the DIY flash cards but till today I haven’t printed the dot cards yet. Moreover, the price for ready made DOT cards are so pricey! May I know how many dot cards you flash per time and how many times a day? Yeah! in this competitive world nowadays, children education is so taxing and challenging. Even Mothers are stressful now to provide the best to their kids. Do you think it is really necessary? But, why not give our best if we can, right? Bravo!

  3. nowadays kids are not like us. its a competitive world and we as parents must come in to help guide them. i totally agree with you for starting ryan at this age.. bravo.
