The alien tooth

About two weeks back I was down with the common cold symptoms. So I went to the GP in our neighborhood.

I sat down and explained to the doc of my symptoms which included sore throat, body ache, coughing and running nose (typical package). She did the usual examination on me. Nothing interesting until she asked me to open my mouth so she could use the tongue depressor to check on my throat.

Me: (mouth wide open)

Doc: Oh! (she had this very shocked and surprised look)

Me: What happened doc?

Doc: Erm.. see again

Me: (Open my mouth wide so she could examine)

Doc: You have an extra tooth

Me: (Puzzled) Extra tooth? Where?

Doc: On the right side (Period)

After she commented on the extra tooth, I saw her scribbling notes on my card and she contionued to tell me what meds she was going to prescribed. Well, since she did not elaborate further and I did not pursue. At the back of my mind, I thought maybe she meant extra wisdom tooth? For some reason, I couldn’t be bothered to pursue. I just want to get my meds and get out of there.

I went home and totally fogotten about it until late afternoon when my curiousity striked. I opened my mouth and took a good look at the vanity mirror.

AAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So, yea… I had the ‘extra tooth’ inside my throat. It turned out I had a shock myself as I wasn’t expecting to see a tooth like thing inside my throat which I’m very sure it wasn’t there before. I tried touching it with my finger and it is hard. Many things ran through my mind. Could it really be an extra tooth? Do I need to see the dentist? What if it’s cancerous, and what not?

Much later, I decided to show Ryan my so called extra tooth which we eventually call it ‘alien tooth’. He was very upset. I told him I’m sick thus the alien tooth. :P

Later that night after the kids dozed off, I decided to become my own doctor. I googled based on my own findings and after a few clicks here and there, I found an answer to it.

It’s a thing call Tonsil Stone (aka Tonsillolith). I have no idea what it is, neither I had even heard of it. Anyway, at least it says it’s common.

So this unknowledgeable doctor had unknowingly caused me umpteen stress in the last 12 hours at least. No treatment is needed while antibiotics would usually help. Since I am on antibiotics for my sore throat and phlegm, I decided to leave the alien alone for a few days.

On the 3rd day of antibiotics, little alien tooth is gone. I think I may have swallowed it. Whatever it is… no more alien tooth. Yay!
