Ryan is 5

@ 5 years 2 weeks 6 days

Where should I even begin…

Ryan celebrated his birthday 3 times this year.

1) First celebration, at the kindy

The school has an unique rule. They only allow one day in a month for birthday celebration. So kids’ whose birthday falls in the same month will celebrate on the same day, if you wish to organise anything for the birthday kid.

This year’s April birthday celebration falls on the 11th April (Monday). It never occured to me to plan anything for this day. Afterall, there was going to be a big birthday bash for the birthday boy 5 days later. Nevertheless, on the Friday before 11th April, Ryan asked if he could celebrate his birthday in school. I thought of turning him down but my boy, he’s always able to sway me away to his will. So, I said yes. With just the weekend left, I scrambled to find him a nice cake. I had wanted to try Wondermilk’s cuppies. So, on Sunday we drove down to Uptown and got him these. There weren’t many selections available because we were there too early and the freshly baked ones are not ready. We had to make do with those ‘pack in the box’. Ryan chose the design (because of the silver sugar beads as toppings) and I thought they looked awesome. They actually taste great too. Thumbs up!

In the hall. Everybody sang birthday songs. The school arranged for cakes for birthday students

Mommy’s Birthday

I cannot remember the number of years I celebrated my birthday with hubby. However this year is exceptional because hubby is away on training in Bali.

On the actual day, I was ill. I caught the flu bug and was down with fever (38.6C), runny nose and cough. The last time I fell sick was 4 years ago. I’ve grown to be much more healthier after the birth of Ryan.

MIL was so sweet. She got me a birthday cake from Secret Recipe. After dinner that night, we had a simple celebration after dinner together with the boys and my in laws. Coincidentally it was also Loida’s birthday. I gave her a necklace and hair accessories as gifts.

Lil B is O-N-E

My darling Lil B is one.. my lil B is O-N-E!!!

My Lil B turned 1 year old on the 22 January. Exactly a year ago, my baby decided he’s ready to meet the world when my I started to feel the tiny weeny contractions pain coming in the middle of my sleep around 2.30am. Since the pain wasn’t really regular, as yet, I brushed it off, assuming it was another false alarm. Afterall, I have been scheduled to go in at 5.30am for induction. I tried to get some sleep before the big day ahead. After tossing for an hour or so, unable to sleep, I went to the washroom only to be greeted with patches of blood. That’s it! My baby was getting impatient and wanted out. So I gathered myself, brushed my teeth, clean up my face, so forth and woke hubby up. He was still in daze being suddenly awaken from his slumberland. There goes, we zoomed to the hospital and the rest were history. Darren came back from the hospital 7 days later to HOME SWEET HOME. My baby, had gone through so much.

Today, he’s a bubbly 1 year old with a cheeky mind. He dotes on his kor kor and will instantly be brightened up when kor kor is around.

We celebrated lil B’s birthday a little earlier because we had planned to bring lil B to Singapore on his actual birthdate. It was a private occasion wit just family members. On the 16th January (Sunday), we collected his pre ordered cake from Secret Receipe Sg Long. Ryan had chose the cake for lil B. It’s a cute yellow bee cake. If only the taste is as good as its look.

Ryan insisted to cut the cake on behalf of Didi.

@ 1 year old +, he could take many little steps. He could walk easily 10 – 15 steps without support. It’s pretty scary to see how he walks. Not knowing anything about danger, he could walk really fast. It’s really scary I could have a heart attack.

Weight: 11.40kg, HC: 49cm, Length: 80cm

Some other milestones:

- He could wave bye bye

- He could express what he want by pointing and screaming vocalling his needs

- He is one loud baby. His screams could be heard a few blocks away. No joke.

- He started to have stranger anxiety when he was about 11 months I think. He refused to be carried by anyone except us (luckily not just me). Somehow he doesn’t like to be carried by Loida. It does send me shivers imagining things whether she has been abusing my baby hence the dislike of her. But then again, I am a stay at home mom and so far I am not seeing anything that weigh on my suspicious. I guess a CCTV inside the house is inevitable now.

- He’s starting to be more picky on his food. He loves adult food. I must admit, I am less strict on his diet as compared to Ryan’s at the same age. They said 2nd time mom is more ‘relaxed’. I guess that’s true to a certain extent.

- His sleeping pattern is good. He normally wakes up around 7am which is the time Ryan wakes up for school too. He will take his nap around 10am for about an hour – an hour and half. His next nap would be around 2.30pm for another 1 – 1.5 hours. Two naps a day. I try not to let him nap past 5pm. So far the schedule works fine and he’ll be in bed around 9pm, latest 10pm. This is so much better than the early days when this little pumpkin will only sleep way past midnight. Those days were torturous.

- He’s very scared of the doctor. I brought him in for MMR jab last week (11Feb) and the moment I put him on the scale for weighing, he started wailing. He stopped crying the moment I picked him up. Then when we were called in, he started his antics again the minute he saw doctor’s face. What a drama king. LOL. When we came out of doctor’s room, everybody were looking at us. I’m so sure even the neighbour office could hear his screaming and cries.

- Some of the words he utters which sounded like : mum mum (eat), yeh yeh, mama,

- On normal days, Darren eats cereal for breakfast. For lunch, he eats what Ryan eats so it can be noodles, pasta, rice. For dinner, he’ll have his regular porridge with pureed chicken, vege, etc. He absolutely loves soup. Any kind of soup goes with him.

Lil B is 9 months and Daddy’s birthday

@ 9 months 2 weeks 2 days

Taken on 3 Nov 2010

My michelin lil b is now 9 months +. Ironically on the day he turned 9 months, he cut his bottom lips because the air filter fell on him when he was trying to pull himself up. That’s how strong he is… Blood was oozing out and I panicked. I quickly applied cold compress and luckily the cut was not deep. The wound healed completely the very next day.

My lil b’s stats:

Weight: 10.4kg

Height: NA

Lil B is very mobile now. He can crawl and cruise like a pro. He could easily pull himself up from any position. When he’s stucked or couldn’t get up, he’ll get upset and start babbling. So cute.

He’s also braven up the courage to stand unsupported for a good few seconds. It’s evident he loves the attention showered on him when he perform his little stunt. I think my little B is gonna take his first step very very soon. *reminds me Ryan took his first step when he was 11 months +)

Not many days ago, we noticed he could actually wave bye bye when we say bye to him. Such a cute sight seeing how he wave his hands up and down up and down.

I’m glad Lil B showed no signs of separation anxiety when being separated from me. He is fine being whisked away by anyone in the house; anyone whom he’s familiar with. This gives me a little break in between for me to do my own stuff, and a little bit of me time.

Just like his kor kor, Lil B is very advance when it comes to teething. At 9 months, he already has 8 teeth (four top, four bottom), cutting his 9th and 10th soon.

Lil B is a joy to feed. He is a true foodie. He eats everything we feed him. When he sees us eating, he wants his share. Unlike Ryan, lil B show no signs of food allergy therefor we have been pretty relaxed on the choices of food he can consume. I literally lose track of the type of food he had stomached in the last 2 months or so. Whenever we eat something, he would stare at us, babbles pitifully until we give him a taste of what we were eating. He’s truly the opposite of Ryan who is such a picky eater since young.

Sleeping Habit

Lil B.. oh Lil B… still pretty much a bad sleeper. There’re still many rooms for adjustment when it comes to his sleeping habit but then again, as a matter of fact I think I have not been strict enough when it comes adjusting his routine. Deep down, I kinda like the fact I could sleep in much later in the morning as opposed to waking up early to an early riser baby. (Lil B will turn in around 12, wakes up around 7am for a milk fix and go back to sleep until 10-11am. H-E-A-V-E-N :P).

Kor Kor and Didi

Ryan likes to give Darren nicknames. First it was Lil B and for a while now, he calls his Didi  ‘ Tickle Boy‘. He said lil B’s name is now Darren Tickle Boy.  The story behind  the name came about, he said, was because lil b likes to be tickled. Then lately, he said Tickle Boy is now Burpy Boy just because of a very loud burp Lil B let out the other day. So, “Darren Burpy Tickle Boy‘ my dear Lil B is now. :P

Ryan dotes on his Didi a lot. He likes to go near lil B. So he gets very upset these few days when he was refrain from getting near the Didi because of a nasty bug he caught (story in the next post). I feel really bad when Ryan asked ‘Mommy, why you always said No, I cannot go near Didi‘. Sigh… if only I have a choice.

I guess I shall end this post with a happy family pic. It was taken on hubs’ birthday. Ryan (who was still sick that day) insisted we should get Daddy an Ultraman cake. So (to please him) we went to a nearby bakery and got the cake with an Ultraman figurine. *Check out what’ was Lil B holding on his left hand*)

For the record, this is the present I surprised hubs on his birthday….

and 2 days later, hubs surprised me back with this…. *awwww how sweet*

Po Po and YehYeh Birthday

Conincidentally PoPo and YehYeh’s birthday was just 1 day apart and good thing is both falls on a weekend this year.

On the 28th August, we celebrated PoPo’s 59th birthday. We went to Dragon-i @ Pavillion for dimsum, alas it wasn’t a good choice made. Dimsum selection at Dragon-i was limited. The items available were pretty similar among one and another. Should have gone to Mandarin for their yummy crepe durian pancakes. Yum Yum..

We shopped for a little while in Pavillion after our dimsum. We also bought a cake but our stomach wasn’t able to take in anymore input so we decided to skip the cake session and PoPo brought the cake home for later.

* I found out later, PoPo, Ah Yee and Wei Wei continued their feast at J.CO Donuts & Coffee. I thought they were full??? :P

The next day it was YehYeh’s 69th birthday. As usual, we went to Pik Wah Restaurant for dinner. We had always some to the same restaurant for meal. Their price is reasonable and food is a thumbs up. Not to mention, the above par special service rendered to us for being one of thei regular customers (especially MIL who always dine here with her associates).

Ryan drew YehYeh a card (seen on the left of YehYeh). We bought Ryan a Malaysia flag yesterday. He had always wanted a flag so when we spotted it at MyDin yesterday morning, we grabbed two without hesitation.
