Molar Surfaced

@ 11 months 3 weeks 3 days

Ryan’s molar has finally surfaced. They say some babies may experience exquisite pain and swelling during molar teething. I am not sure if I have witnessed that on Ryan but the myth on ear pulling was evident though as he was seen scratching his right ear on several occassion. Anyways, it was during the ride to 1U yesterday morning that I saw Ryan’s pearly molar (right) on his gum and this evening while cleaning his mouth, I saw another tiny white dot on his left gum (likely the left molar is also cutting out). No wonder so cranky these days.

I do not know whether it was my imagination or what.. somehow I find my boy has grown so much over the last few weeks. He is now able to walk independently, he is now able to play by himself for a long time and amazingly able to play with his toys the way they should be played. He also loves his playing balls so much that he will walk with his two hands occupied by them.. at time he will show you a little trick by bouncing the ball on to the ground, pick it up and bounce it again and again. His sleeping habit has also improved. On a few occassion, he even slept on his own without any stimulation (patting/lullabies) from mummy. Ooh… I do miss his baby-hood days (Sasha.. I couldn’t agree with you more)
Lately I realised Ryan somehow learnt to enjoy his car seat ride, he is now able to entertain himself by looking out the window watching and pointing the passing trees, buildings, cars what not.. then he’ll start ‘Eh, Eh, Eh’ expecting you to look to the direction and respond. In addition, he is also more willing to sit patiently while enjoying his drink (usually Ribena). And at times he simply just stare blank outside the window in deep thoughts (I assume happily day dreaming there.. :P) … as shown below.. Heehee…

Cheeky boy can’t get enough of one of his sleep mates.

Sleep Problem Surfaced

@ 11 months 1 week

They say sleep problems may potentially crops up when the baby is reaching his/her first birthday. I think it is horrifyingly true for Ryan and what puzzles us is that why it always happens at about the same time every night between 4am – 6am when sleep is such a treasure for us.

Last night (this morning) was no difference. Ryan slept at about 10.30pm last night. At 2.45am, he was already tossing around. Sensing it could be his sign out of hunger, I made milk, fed him and he was back to Zzzz-land. Phew… The end??

Of course NO-NO-NO. Ryan woke up again at 4.15am. No way he was hungry. He gulped in 7oz of milk just 1.5 hours ago. Anyways.. out of desperation for more sleep I made him extra milk and another 2oz of milk went in his tummy. His eyes were already wide and bright by then.. demanding play time. Arrgghh…”Gau Meng Ar” (Help!!!)

At 5.15am, Ryan finally showed signs of sleepiness (rubbing his eyes and staring stoned face at the ceiling downlights). Then while patting him, I counted 1-10 (repeatedly), After a short repitition, Ryan went back to ZZzz land.. But just right after I dozed off (feels like nanoseconds ago only), Ryan woke up again (10 mins after I dozed off in actual) and again, Ryan was all excited, wanted to get out of bed for more play time… “Gau Gau Meng Ar” (Help! Help!)

So, no choice.. After like 15 mins of silly games, he was again showing sign of sleepiness and I patted him to sleep.. But after another 10 mins, he woke up again. Arrggh…. I seriously lost my patient. What is wrong with him??????? Hubs got up wanted to take over but knowing there’s no way he could cheat Ryan to bed I asked him to stay away! (Frus already!!!).

Why dont need Daddy’s help? See.. Ryan is an obvious Daddy’s boy. When he sees Daddy, he sees the word “PLAY”.. stick to Daddy like a magnet. Anyways, the whole routine above (sleep, wake up, play, sleep, wake up, play..) goes on and on until 6.00am!!!

Just when I thought I could get more sleep, my alarm went off. Time to get up for work. Literally have to drag myself out of bed. As soon as I got up from bed, guess what.. Ryan turned his body, looked at mummy, sat up straight away and again, wants more play time….

I was actually a bit irritated (I know it is not his fault, as it could be teething, separation anxiety what not what not.. but also feel a bit geram la…) I only slept for like what 4 hours in total??? But when I saw this cute little face this morning, aaah.. my heart melts again..

Ryan’s Little Naughty Tricks

@ 10 months 3 weeks 6 days

Scary Ball-Ball
I do not understand the logics behind Ryan’s fear of this squeezie basket ball. We bought 2 softballs for Ryan couple weeks back from Toys ‘R Us. He loves it as he is able to grib it easily using his tiny hands b4 he starts throwing it around. But due to his teething symptoms (I think his right molar is coming out), he developed the liking of biting the balls too (rubber!!). So last few days I bought another one – a different one. Though a little heavier with different texture, the look of it is the same.. at least the surface is not easily bitten off. I thought I could keep the two balls aside and let him play with the new one but…..

Can you spot the difference?

Somehow some reason, our cheeky Ryan was not easily deceived. He could spot the difference and will stay away from the new ball. I seriously don’t know why. His fear of the new ball is so evident that he will not even go near the ball. So, I have actually kept it aside until last night suddenly hubs came out with his brilliant idea. Knowing Ryan is so attracted to plugs, switches, cables and what not, so all we did was put the ball next to the plugs etc and Ryan will not go near. As simple as that. It was such a funny sight. but hey at least it works, Ryan is kept away from danger (at least for as long as his fear for the ball lasts).

Wobbly Little Steps
Ryan has been taking 4-5 wobby steps at a time now. My heart drops out everytime he does that. Ryan would be leaning again something (wardrobe, chair what not), then he would turn around, pose with the cheeky smile of his a bit and suddenly make his steps to wherever he was heading at lightning speed. Luckily the room is well padded with mattress, pillows etc.. else I do not know how many bumps he will get on his head and how many heart attacks mummy will suffer. Phew~~

Tricks during milktime
Now that Ryan is able to hold his own bottle, he is no longer the kwai-kwai (good) baby who lay still on bed/pillow during feeds. Typical milktime stunts…

Half way through his milk, he’ll sit up and start playing with things around him. This time it was Daddy’s control.

PlayPen Tricks
Ryan knows it when I said no-no it really means NO. I have taught Ryan on ‘leg down first’ logic when it comes to coming down from the bed, the stairs, chair etc etc etc. When Ryan did the opposite (head down first instead), I’ll stop him, say No-No, and he’ll know to turn his body around and move his legs down first. Of course, at times when this mummy is all tired and ignorant knowing the floor is padded.. I’ll just allow Ryan to explore himself freely. This is what happened….

Cleaning Ryan’s Teeth

@ 10 months 6 days

I finally found a solution to cleaning Ryan’s teeth without having to risk my finger being bitten off by the lil monster (heehee.. yeah.. a bit exaggerated using the word ‘bitten off’ but it’s really a pain we all wanna avoid).

Anyways, this is it.. trainer toothbrush set from Pigeon. Ryan has 8 teeth now (and showing signs of teething again now..aiks..the 9th one??) but I’ve started him on the 1st stage brush anyhow though it is actually meant for baby with 2-3 milk teeth. I’ll start the stage 2 once he familiarise with the brush in his mouth.

Ryan has been very cooperative. He somehow willingly opens his mouth for me to clean his teeth and tongue when I say ‘Aahh’ and put the brush near his mouth(hmm.. probably thought it’s drumstick this time :P). No biting resistance too which is of course a great relief. Anyways, even if he bites also I won’t feel the pain no more. Yoohoo… The brush also comes with a protection shield that prevents choking hazard which is very helpful if you have a hyper and unpredictable baby like Ryan. Worth a try la… :D
