Mother’s Day

@ 3 years 3 weeks 5 days

Mother’s Day came and gone. As usual, we made no special plans. In short, no celebrations. :(

On Saturday morning we went to Fidgets, an indoor playground. We had been there for 2 consequetive weeks because lil Ryan just had so much fun everytime we were there.

The week before, Ryan showed us how brave he was when he slid down this 2 storey slides by himself. I was taken by huge surprise when he did that. Frankly I failed to bring myself to do the same. Yes, I’m that scaredy. Having said so, this week he refused to repeat his achievement. Instead, he preferred to slide down with Daddy. Hopefully not another scaredy cat in the making.

On Sunday morning, all three of us woke up at around 9am. I threw the idea to bring Ryan out in the afternoon to hubs. He was indifference and gave no answer. Feeling lazy, I also did not persist.

At around 2 plus, Ryan woke up from his nap. I continued my beauty nap. Afterall,it was Mother’s Day, I thought I deserved a little bit of pamper, don’t I? At 4pm, hubs came in the room and woke me up. ‘Let’s go shopping’, he said. I jumped out of my bed. Hahahaha…

We went to Centrepoint in Orchard. Bought Ryan a dump truck and a 1 series BMW die-cast model to add to his collection. He was estatic. Little boy, so easily pleased.

After a short stroll, we popped into Geox. They were having 10% discount storewide. How pathetic, 10% only. There was a pair of pumps I was eyeing but even after the discount, it’s still pricey. Grand Singapore Sale is around the corner, I may have more choices then. Afterall, I don’t have the soft spot for expensive shoes. (Bags yes… :P). So I came out of empty handed, whereas hubs leaving the shop beaming happily with a new pair of shoes for himself.

So, on Sunday, Mother’s Day, we have a happy daddy and a jolly baby. Their smiles, their happiness, somehow mean so much more to me on this special day. I am a happy mommy (wife) for sure and I hope my own mommy is feeling the same, always happy, always able to keep herself busy following her TVB and hokkien series.

I may not say this everyday but I hope she knows eventhough I am now married, living in Singapore, may not be able to visit her that often and gossip with her about our neighbours, friends, yee ma ku che, etc etc… my heart is always thinking of her. Distance sets us physically apart but our hearts definitely grew fonder for each other. I do miss her and am utterly grateful and thankful for having blessed a mommy like her. She may be a strict mom, but thinking back, I wouldn’t be who I am today if not for her strict moulding to ensure I grow up a good kid. I love you, mom.

Mother’s Day artwork from Ryan

Sasha, the pretty momma, sent Ryan a pair of Ultraman PJs and lots of Cars stickers for his birthday last month. The PJs is still a little big but the mask fits nicely. Ryan absolutely loves it. Thank you soooo much!

On Monday was a Wesak Day holiday for Ryan’s school. So a few mommies organised a post Mother’s Day celebration at Marriott Hotel. We have decided to meet at 12.30pm, so at about 11.30am I asked Sotong to tuck Ryan for his nap and I conveniently sneaked out. I took the train down to Orchard which was just 3 stops away. Since I was early, I even managed a quick retail therapy at CK Tangs. Bought a new pair of pumps @ a small fraction of Geox’s price. So happy. Hahahaha…

Buffet lunch at Marriott’s was so so. Their main course spread was not very impressive, appetiser and dessert were acceptable but could be better. Somehow I find the buffets in KL hotels offer so much more varieties. We spent a good 3 hours there. Had a blast of time until the captain had to interupt us to settle the bill as they needed the table for hi tea reservations. After we settled the bill, we dwelled on for another half an hour before we call it a day. I know.. what a bunch of uncooperative mommies but hey, we don’t get to do this very often, you know. :D

Happy Mother’s Day to my mommy and all deserving mommies out there…

Long winded rant…!!

My helper took her off day yesterday. I had initially allowed her to take Sundays off (once a month) but due to my recent discovery on her lifestyle, I decided to scrap that. I will have a separate juicy post on that.

Anyway, yesterday afternoon I decided to bring Ryan out to United Square. It was my first time out with Ryan alone. I was a little hesitant at first but I bite my tongue and went ahead as planned. I was so determined to get hold of a watering pot for him. Die die must go. That’s me. Always so kan cheong. Unfortunately luck was not on our end. I searched the whole complex and found nothing appropriate.

So I went to do some groceries shopping at Cold Storage instead. Ryan behaved really well, very cooperative all along. After my groceries spree, we stopped by for some kiddie rides and playground fun. We saw a Japanese girl from afar, around the age of 4+ running around, disturbing and blocking other kids from going up the slides. What a spoilt brat!

Not surprisngly she did the same to Ryan. When Ryan was going up the stairs on the slides, she purposely pushed Ryan away and sat right in front of his path. When Ryan was sliding down, she walked up from the bottom of the slide and refused to budge leaving Ryan stucked in the middle. Such a nuisance endangering the life of others and herself.

As much as I was very unhappy at the sight, I told Ryan to be patient and suggested he play with other activities. He was visibly disappointed but was well mannered enough to give in for other activities – ‘wheel twisting’. That Japanese girl continued her antics while her mommy just stood there like a tree, not moving an inch.

How could a playground fun be complete without going down the slides right. Simply irresistable but Ryan simply could not enjoy any spur moment of fun without getting interrupted. From her expression, she finds joy in upsetting others. Another mommy was so afraid of letting her 18 mo girl near her and decided to just sit aside.

I was upset with the girl, but I was more disappointed with her mother for not making an effort to manage the whole situation; her kid. Kids being kids, they can be rough and I could totally understand that but that doesn’t mean the parents/guardian could keep a blind eye on their actions. A few times she almost pushed Ryan down the slides because she was impatient. Ryan kept saying ‘excuse me, excuse me’ only to have his plea fallen on deaf ears. I can see other frustrated mommies were already exchanging glances.  One hand I was telling Ryan to ‘share and take turns’, afterall this is a public amenities but deep down I so want to confront her mom telling her to at least manage her daughter! Anyway, I did not. I swallowed my frustration and continued keeping a close eye on Ryan. Don’t want to create a scene ma….

The final straw came when Ryan was at the ‘twist the wheel’ section again. This girl came and pushed Ryan away. Ryan looked at me and I again said ‘let’s share’ (I was boiling mad by then). This girl was so inconsiderate and possessive that she doesn’t even allowed Ryan to put his hands on the wheel. By then I could not take it anymore. I walked up to the girl, told her politely ’Girl, please share with your friend, okay?‘. She ignored me and pushed Ryan right under my nose. Wahhh… I cannot tolerate further. I was soooo soooo mad. I held on her hand and firmly said ‘NO.. no pushing, you’re hurting your friend here.. please share‘ then I took a glance at her mommy and summoned her to look after her girl and not allowing her to hurt other children. Guess what. She treated me like an invisible air. I don’t know whether she understands me or not. She stared at me blankly. I could explode anytime. By then, Ryan’s patience reaches its limit. He insisted playing and the girl continued to push him away. Ryan started crying. Poor boy. I quickly pulled Ryan away, said  ‘PLEASE BEHAVE‘ and showed the NO sign language to both mother and daughter. I was dumfounded to see the mother unperturbed. I assume she doesn’t understand English but seeing your child bullying her peers, anyone with the right state of mind would have acted sanely right? It was as if nothing has happened despite seeing a boy crying because of her daughter’s action. Disappointed!

Ryan was inconsolable. He was deeply upset. So I brought him to the wheel. I just couldn’t be bothered to give face to anyone anymore when they showed no respect to us at the first place. A mother’s got to do what a mother’s got to do. The girl also started crying upon seeing Ryan at the wheels. I really don’t care. I was prepared for a cat fight even if mother finally speaks and confront me. But guess what.. she showed no emotions, nothing and then poooofffff…. after awhile mother and daughter were out of sight. No apology at all. Speaking of uncivilised manners….. ^*%(&*^

Over the weekend….

@ 29 months 3 weeks 6 days

We went to Jacob Ballas Children’s Garden on Saturday – Asia’s first children’s garden. We have heard so much about the place but never got the chance to visit. It’s always zoo, zoo, zoo during the weekends (Ryan’s favourite). Weather was kind on us that morning. We reached there about 9am and the morning sun was shining bright down on us. Places like this is usually packed with people during the weekends but luckily we got there early. There were still ample parking space available.

We were greeted by the water play area as soon as we entered the garden. The area was already packed with kids. We could actually hear the kids’ screams and laughter at the entrance. Ryan too wanted his share of fun but we convinced him we will be back for more after checking out the rest of the areas. We stopped at the photosynthesis exhibit next. Ryan was definitely captivated and refused to leave. He kept cranking and cranking the handles of the various stations (sunlight, carbon dioxide, water and phosynthesis). His favourite was  the photosynthesis station which releases mist as he turned the handle. It’s pretty amazing.

We walked around for another 30 minutes or so. We visited the A -maze – ing Play, Sand Play, Match the Plants & Animals, Playground and Water Play. We actually thought we combed the whole garden. At least that was what hubs convinced me but we later found out we were actually far from it. There are still at least another 4- 5 attractions in the vicinity to cover.

We went back to the Water Play area. Ryan absolutely love water. The Aqua diaper and extra clothing we brought for Ryan proved to be a wise decision. By 10am, the water play area was full of kiddos running around, showering under the water fountains, queueing for water at the manual water pump. Ryan had such a great time there.

The few watering cans available there were such a scarce. Literally all eyes were on them. It’s like now you have it, now you don’t. Ryan was visibly longing for one. Poor boy. But thanks to another kor-kor who voluntarily gave up his and passed it to Ryan. Oh-so-sweeeeet.

At night we went to Ngee Ann and Paragon. We wanted to get a watering can for Ryan so we could bring along the next time we go for water play. The trip down town was a futile trip. The place was jam packed with shoppers and simply too crowded to stroll along serenely. We went home empty handed. Who says economy is bad…..??

We didn’t do much on Sunday. We wanted to go zoo in the morning but we overslept and since hubs wanted to catch his live F1 telecast at noon we decided to stay in. At night we went to this cosy Forture Seafood Restaurant along Bukit Timah Road for dinner. Their Salted Egg Yolk Crab is one of the best we have tasted. Yummyyyy…..

The Curious Little Boy….

@ 29 months 3 weeks

Ryan is a very curious boy.  He likes to ask questions on the things he sees, the people he meets, infact, anything that come across as unusual to him he will ask. It’s pretty draining to the people around him as we have to answer his umpteen questions else he will ask the same question again and again until we finally respond.

Some of Ryan’s questions I could recall since morning. Some of the questions he actually asked me every day without fail.

“Mommy, where are we going?” (on our way to send hubs to work)

“Mommy, where’s water fountain?” (the condo mgmt had switched off the fountain)

“Mommy, remember the water tanker?” (we saw a water tanker near OG, Chinatown couple weeks back on our way home after dropping hubs at work)

“Mommy, where the water go?” (referring to waterfall)

“Got a lot of buildings. Why buildings not moving?”

“Where’s the digger?” (sometimes we could see digger on our way to hubs’ office)

“Why this taxi is red and white and black, this taxi is blue?” (referring to the two different taxis from two different companies he saw)

“What’s this mommy?” (when he saw the dumbbell under the table)

“Why no hot water?” (it’s quite cloudy today and it took awhile for the water heater to heat up)

“Why mermaid no legs?” (when I was reading Mermaid story to him this morning)

“Why shark got stucked?” (also part of Mermaid story)

“Why daddy angry?” (also referring to the King in Mermaid story)

“Mommy, why cannot?” (when the computer he was using hang therefore he can’t continue his Thomas matching game)

“Why got aeroplane sound, cannot see aeroplane here?” (we heard airplanes zooming passed our area but obviously we missed it)

“Remember this mommy?” (he saw a familiar scene on Disney Mickey Mouse cartoon similar to a game he played on computer)

“What’s next mommy?” (when his fav cartoon ended)

“What’s this mommy?” (I was eating egg tart)

“Mommy, Island Sodor, remember YuenJou go Pangkor Island?” (while watching Thomas)

“Why this train no eyebrow, that one got?” (I don’t know which train he was referring to)

“Why so difficult. Must drink lots of water then easy?” (hahahahaahahaha… when he was doing his big business just now!)

“What’s this mommy? What’s cockroach doing here? What’s Tarzan? Where are they going? What this? Why that?” (while watching Archies on TV)

And lots of others, why(s), what(s), where(s) which I can’t recall all now………If we go out in the afternoon (which we didn’t today), the more questions Ryan will pop. In a day, easily 30 different questions from him. I am proud that he has a inquisitive mind but sometimes it’s also mind draining as he likes to ask questions which he already knew the answer. When I teased him with a wrong answer, he will laugh, tell me the right answer and ask “why Mommy don’t know??” *slaphead*.

Bought this ages ago when he was still having phobia visiting the doc. He has since grown out of the fear. Yippee!!

Another Studio Shoot

@ 26 months 2 weeks 2 days

The title says it all……….

After we got home Ryan was still very excited so we stripped the lil fella and continued a few more shots before calling it a day… Heehee…

*he sure has a pair of cunning eyes*

scroll down for last pic (rated 18SX)  :P

~~I so luv this shot~~

* My boy is sure no camera shy. He was pretty cooperative throughout the one hour session. After every few shots, he would go to Uncle Benjamin (the photographer) request to see his own pictures on the camera. Then he would say “nice“. *thick face*

For more…  check out my FB

**Update 3 Jul 08.

We have some of the previous studio shoot pictures hanging on the wall. This morning, Ryan said this to me:

Ryan: Mommy, I want (to) go there
Mommy: Where do you want to go?
Ryan: There, there (pointing at the pictures). I wan (to) go take pictures!

Hahahaha… he sure had fun yesterday. :D
