Some updates:

Potty training. So far so good. Ever since that fateful day, Ryan has got the hang of doing his small / big business on the adult WC (bought him the booster seat as I really dislike the chore of potty cleaning. Yeaks!) The only problem now is he still refuses to signal when the need arises. He will only indicate AFTER the process when he needs a change. He will come to me and say “Mommy, poo poo, change”. A bit late by then…. So, twice a day (morning during bath & after his nap in the afternoon), poor mommy have to diligently bring him to the toilet, sat him on his booster seat, pass him a book and wait for durian to fall.  90% of the time, this mommy will get to see the durians. Oopss.. sorry if you’re a durian fan.Ha ha…

Speech development. Ryan can string 4 to 5 words now. Able to use his magic pointer and count from 1 – 3 on his own. Sometimes he will play cheeky. When I asked him ”how many dogs etc?”, he will use his magic pointer and start one, two, one two then he will look at me for my expression. He will cheekily laugh when I shake my head and he’ll go one, two, one, two again.  He picked up a lot of new words when we were back in KL – all English words and able to string them together now. Eg. the the word upstairs, downstairs; he will say “Daddy, bebe go upstairs” or “Play downstairs” so forth. Despite the improvement on his English vocab, his mandarin words acquisition has definitely reached a cul-de-sac! So far only two words : meiyo (don’t have) and chuo-gong (work). Sigh….

Current favourites. Thomas & Friends trains, Digger (excavator), Cars, Dora the Explorer, Bob the Builder. He’s such a big Dora fan now that he will request us to play Dora again and again. I never thought a DVD on Dora Explorer that I bought will create such a fascination from Ryan. Arrgh.. now I regret I didn’t buy more when I was in KL. I paid $16.90 for another a second Dora DVD two days ago. Had been watching the same one again and again for the past one week. He can even pronounce the word Dora with exact pronounciation with the sound of R not L.

Diet: Not much changes. He’s still a pretty small eater I would think; fussy for sure though. He’s very concious when it comes to new food. He doesn’t even take his Ribena now which was once his favourite simply because we had stopped giving him Ribena for awhile now the drink seems alien to him. His favourite drink is still yogurt of any flavours. Vitagen/Yakult second. Everyday he must have his yogurt esp on the way to send daddy to work in the morning. Else he will go “yogurt drink, yogurt drink, yogurt drink… and fussed”! Starting last month,  I add boiling soup into sotong’s daily chores. Everyday Ryan will get to drink his soup during his meals. His doesn’t like dates. whenever we put dates in the soup, he will spit out and refused to finish. His current favourite is Bamboo Shoot soup. Used to be Lotus Roots.

Others:

Overall Ryan is still managable. No signs of terrible 2, yet (finger crossed). The most annoying thing he had done over the last one month was probably when he refused the leave a shop (Choo Choo Train in Pavillion) as he was too engrossed with the Thomas and friends train set displayed in the shop. We ended up buying a set for him with a damage of RM299 in our pocket. Nevermind.. Daddy just got his bonus. He he…

Ryan likes to hold our hand. I’m not sure if he feels insecure or what but he is very happy when we hold his hands walking in the mall. He also insisted we hold his hand a certain way – on the palm, not wrist.

His confidence also built up when he’s on the escalator. Last time he will stand still. Nowadays he will climb a step down (if escalator is going down) or a step up (if it’s moving up) and he will imitate the rest and put his hand on the rail.

He likes his flash cards, of which something I wasn’t expecting. I actually thought he finds it boring cos sometimes he will just look away while I was flashing. Btw. I failed the mission to complete the 65 day programme because I missed the 10 days when we were in KL. So I would have to start all over again. The night we came home, Ryan went to pick up his boxes of flash cards and kept saying “cards, cards”. I was really tired (bad mommy) so I tried to brush it off and told him we’ll do it tomorrow. Ryan insisted and he ran to the bedroom in search of something. Initially I thought he was looking for the set of dot cards that I’ve left under the TV console so I remained in the living room, waiting for ryan to come out. I could hear he was messing with things inside the room, walking left right up down. After awhile, he came out, not with the dot cards though but with the ’rubber’ that I wear on my thumb when flashing the cards. I actually have two, one of them I left it in the room because I normally do the dot cards in the room while the others in the living. I was really surprise – a pleasant one of course.

After a month of training, Ryan can now drink from his cup without assistance. He will still spill a little water when he gets too ‘kancheong’ wanted to finish the whole. But he improved lots. In terms of eating on his own, or feeding himself soup etc.. still need training.

As I’ve mentioned here, 10 days in KL seemed to pass in a glimpse of eyes. Those 10 days were the days when I could actually sleep past 8.30am without interuptions while my lil mischieveous was busy being entertained by the whole household. Morning walk around the neighborhood, visiting neighbour’s dogs, hours of non stop playing, kicking, rolling, scribbling the ball, running up and down… dah dah dah… literally round the clock play time. I’m really glad Ryan had a splendid time in KL, catching up with grandparents (both hubs and my side), aunties, uncles, relatives, cousins, etc.. not forgetting Mochi (sis’ puppy) which he had so much fun playing with.

At 22 months, Ryan is definitely more alert about his surroundings. I feel really sorry as he was visibly pretty sad on the day we left for SG. He was not as jovial as usual and he kept calling MaMa, YehYeh, KaKak Aida (should be Kakak Linda) on the way. Luckily he fell asleep shortly onto our journey… Poor baby.

Oh, just for the record I’ve started Ryan on toothpaste…

Look at that face… get what I mean? So kesian…………

Last but not least, would like to take the opportunity to wish everyone…

My Valentine’s

I’m back….

…from a splendid break in KL. Somehow 10 days seemed to pass in a glimpse of eyes. Aiya.

We had initially planned for a early Valentine’s celebration in KL. We have been longing for some quality pat toh time for as long as I could remember but as always a plan is always as a good as a plan. With the on going cny festival, friends visiting, bla bla… we ended up at home on the day we were supposed to be out. How UN-romantic.

But nevermind, cos it was a fruitful trip for me. He he….

Despite not having a real celebration, I received my present in time. Terra….

Won’t elaborate on the gift but hubs says that’s gonna be my pressie for Anniversary, Valentine’s, birthday, and all the in tow celebrations for a long long time to come. *shudder* I hope he’s not serious. *wink*

On the actual day, we went to this place for dinner…

Nothing to shout about. But it has been a while we had dinner together on a weekday so it feels really good. Food wise. No romantic package meal. Afterall, we’re ‘Lo Fu Lo Chai’, those days when hubs will spend RM600 on a Valentine’s meal were looooooong gone.

We ordered wanton noodles and abalone porridge respectively. Ryan on the other hand was being entertained by ‘sotong’ so we somehow managed to get our peaceful Valentine’s dinner. Not bad wat…..

Potty Training

@ 21 months, 2 weeks, 2 days

I kinda gave up potty training Ryan for a while mainly because I feel that he is just not ready. No matter how much effort and patience I put in, he refused to pee or poo on his potty. When that failed, I thought maybe he prefered the WC so bought him the booster seat. When he saw the cartoons on the booster seat, he fussed and refused to sit on it. Should have gotten a plain one (Arrghh..)

Anyways, today during shower suddenly he looked me in the eye with that strange face (you know that funny looking face when one needs to poo.. ha ha). So I quickly grab the potty and made him sit on it. Waited and waited.. voila… this time it’s a success. *cannot imagine one can actually be happy to see poo.. ha ha*

Actually if you ask me, I find cleaning up the potty ’mess’ far far more disgusting than diaper’s. I actually went like ‘oek’,'oek’ a few times throughout the process. I tried controlling as I do not want to plant a negative impression to Ryan. But.. aah.. really cannot help it.  I guess after a while I’ll be used to it. Grrr….

Hopefully this is not just a fluke shot. We’ll see how it goes tomorrow….. :P
