Love Never Ends with Air Supply

 photo (2)

Early last month, hubs told me Air Supply was coming. I was a little hesitant (as usual) to leave the kids behind but then on second thought, it’s only natural we get a little time off, a little bit of ‘couple time’, away from the kids once in a while. Well, really, time out like this does help keep our sanity. So, hubs purchased the tickets and off we went for the concert last Monday, 15th Nov at Plenary Hall, KLCC Convention Centre.

You can read more about the Australian band Air Supply here.

Graham Russell, singer – songwrite. The man behind the many Air Supply hit songs!

The sang some of their hit songs such as All Out of Love, Making Love Out of Nothing at all, and many more. Graham Russell also sang one of their new songs entitled ’Just a little bit more’, a song about a soldier who was summoned to war, left behind his newly bride and never came home. He claimed this is a song based on true story. :(

In a nutshell, we had a fantabulous time. The crowd went roaring for more when the duo bid goodbye after merely an hour. They came back on stage and finally ended their concert with the song ‘Goodbye’. Simply too short! Too short!

Lil B is 9 months and Daddy’s birthday

@ 9 months 2 weeks 2 days

Taken on 3 Nov 2010

My michelin lil b is now 9 months +. Ironically on the day he turned 9 months, he cut his bottom lips because the air filter fell on him when he was trying to pull himself up. That’s how strong he is… Blood was oozing out and I panicked. I quickly applied cold compress and luckily the cut was not deep. The wound healed completely the very next day.

My lil b’s stats:

Weight: 10.4kg

Height: NA

HC: NA

Physical

Lil B is very mobile now. He can crawl and cruise like a pro. He could easily pull himself up from any position. When he’s stucked or couldn’t get up, he’ll get upset and start babbling. So cute.

He’s also braven up the courage to stand unsupported for a good few seconds. It’s evident he loves the attention showered on him when he perform his little stunt. I think my little B is gonna take his first step very very soon. *reminds me Ryan took his first step when he was 11 months +)

Not many days ago, we noticed he could actually wave bye bye when we say bye to him. Such a cute sight seeing how he wave his hands up and down up and down.

Behavioural

I’m glad Lil B showed no signs of separation anxiety when being separated from me. He is fine being whisked away by anyone in the house; anyone whom he’s familiar with. This gives me a little break in between for me to do my own stuff, and a little bit of me time.

Teething

Just like his kor kor, Lil B is very advance when it comes to teething. At 9 months, he already has 8 teeth (four top, four bottom), cutting his 9th and 10th soon.

Feeding

Lil B is a joy to feed. He is a true foodie. He eats everything we feed him. When he sees us eating, he wants his share. Unlike Ryan, lil B show no signs of food allergy therefor we have been pretty relaxed on the choices of food he can consume. I literally lose track of the type of food he had stomached in the last 2 months or so. Whenever we eat something, he would stare at us, babbles pitifully until we give him a taste of what we were eating. He’s truly the opposite of Ryan who is such a picky eater since young.

Sleeping Habit

Lil B.. oh Lil B… still pretty much a bad sleeper. There’re still many rooms for adjustment when it comes to his sleeping habit but then again, as a matter of fact I think I have not been strict enough when it comes adjusting his routine. Deep down, I kinda like the fact I could sleep in much later in the morning as opposed to waking up early to an early riser baby. (Lil B will turn in around 12, wakes up around 7am for a milk fix and go back to sleep until 10-11am. H-E-A-V-E-N :P).

Kor Kor and Didi

Ryan likes to give Darren nicknames. First it was Lil B and for a while now, he calls his Didi  ‘ Tickle Boy‘. He said lil B’s name is now Darren Tickle Boy.  The story behind  the name came about, he said, was because lil b likes to be tickled. Then lately, he said Tickle Boy is now Burpy Boy just because of a very loud burp Lil B let out the other day. So, “Darren Burpy Tickle Boy‘ my dear Lil B is now. :P

Ryan dotes on his Didi a lot. He likes to go near lil B. So he gets very upset these few days when he was refrain from getting near the Didi because of a nasty bug he caught (story in the next post). I feel really bad when Ryan asked ‘Mommy, why you always said No, I cannot go near Didi‘. Sigh… if only I have a choice.

I guess I shall end this post with a happy family pic. It was taken on hubs’ birthday. Ryan (who was still sick that day) insisted we should get Daddy an Ultraman cake. So (to please him) we went to a nearby bakery and got the cake with an Ultraman figurine. *Check out what’ was Lil B holding on his left hand*)

Father’s Day Celebration

Ryan @ 4 years 2 months 1 week

This year’s father day celebration was a quiet one for us. Nothing to should about.

We decided to bring Ryan to watch Toys Story 3 (not the 3D) on Saturday night.  It was a last minute decision so tickets are limited. We tried to book Garden’s Premier but they too are full house. So I tried Jusco Cheras Selatan, very near to our home. Surprisingly tickets were still available for the couple seats. I quickly made the booking.

That afternoon I summoned him for a good nap. Expectedly he refused. After threatening we will not bring him to the cinema if he miss his nap, he collapsed immediately. That shows how tired and sleepy he was.

I had book 2 sets of couple seats for the 3 of us. It proved to be a wise choice. The seats were very comfortable and Ryan did not complain about not being able to sit close to me enough (When I brought Ryan to watch Princess Frog, this little fella kept complaining he can’t get to me near enough and the divider is a great nuisance)

Toys Story movie sure has come a long way. The first Toy Story was released in 1995. I did not watch it. I can’t remember why. It probably does not appealed to me then. Many years later in 1999, Toys Story 2 was released. Again, I missed it. I still don’t get the idea behind the whole hype over some silly animated story about toys.

Then……. 2 years ago, we came across the first Toys Story 1 on DVD. We bought it and watched it together with Ryan. He loved it, and I too began to enjoy it. Much later on when we visited Hong Kong for holiday, we combed the local HVD shop and bought whole lot of DVDs, Toys Story 2 included.

Now came the 3rd installment. I may say this time the story is slightly more mature. They input a lot of different elements into the show to make it appealing to all age segments. Daddy was laughing away when Buzz was put on demo mode, Ryan closed his eyes and screamed ‘I cannot watch this part’ when Buzz went into the vending machine and I was close to tears the part the characters joined hand and made a chain when they were approaching the fire pit.

The verdict. Not one but two thumbs up for Toys Story 3.

Ryan’s ambition, Formula 1 and the parents teacher meet

@ 47 months 3 weeks 5 days

Daddy has always been a F1 aficionado for as long as I can remember. Ryan must have inherited the thrill for fast cars from Daddy. Just the other day he told us he wants to become a doctor so he could earn lots of money to buy a Ferrari. It’s funny when I eventually found out he also said the same to his teacher at school, just a different version. At school, he told his teacher this.. ” My mommy said I must go school to learn so I can buy a Ferrari”. Huh.. did I say that? I remember telling him doctors can earn a lot of money though .. mmm.. but then I also did say the same about singers, lawyers and yadda yadda.

Just now I asked him again.

Mommy: What do you want to become when you grow up?
Ryan: A doctor first then an astronaut (no.. I definitely did not mention a thing about our so called Malaysia’s first astronaut)
Mommy: No.. you can only choose one profession.
Ryan: A doctor!! (he screamed in delight)
Mommy: OK.. that’s good. What kind of doctor you want to become? There’s doctor who treats children, animals, ….
Ryan: I want to become a doctor who treats the aliens and monsters from outer space, and the sea creatures under water.
Mommy: How about a doctor who treats human?
Ryan: I don’t want.
Mommy: Huh??? O-o-o…

Back to Formula 1. Daddy has gotten 2 grandstand tickets for this year’s Malaysia F1 Grand Prix, 2 – 4 April. We didn’t miss the two races in Singapore but this time round I was quite hesitant to leave the kids at home, esp little B.

I told Daddy I’ll give it a miss but after much consideration and with my MIL’s blessing, I agreed to go for the race day and will give qualifying a pass. Knowing Ryan is also a fan of racing cars, we toyed with the idea of bringing him along. I remember how he would nag us to bring him along when he saw the lights and benches being setup during race period. As much as we wanted to, kids age 7 and below are prohibited from the race due to the noise level. Of course we could sign some indemnity and purchase the earphone et al, but it’s really not worth the risk.

Since we have one spare ticket, Daddy decided to bring Ryan along for the qualifying race. We skipped the Friday practise session. It’s not the first time the Daddy and son went out alone (the first time was when Daddy brought Ryan to the KL Tower back in February so I wasn’t too worried if Daddy could handle. Having said so, little did I expect 4 hours later, I saw father and son came home all drenched. Daddy’s side of story was, apparently Ryan had insisted to go home and Daddy had to carry the 16kg boy to the parking lot 20 minutes away, all under heavy rain. I really don’t understand. Why can’t they wait for the rain to stop? Luckily Ryan had a raincoat on but heroic Daddy refused to wear one. ….. When I questioned Daddy, the ever good daddy said ‘BB wants to go home and how to carry BB with raincoat on, it’s slippery’. *chuckled* Silly nya excuse dia. :P

Visit to KL Tower, Feb 2010

Ryan likes tall nice building. His fav building is the Telekom building along Federal Highway. Somehow he finds that fascinating.

Notice the same smile? Thanks to Aunty Jane for the Ultraman tee.

Same smile part 2

Ryan with the RM100 earphone. Super ex!

Ryan with the Ninja raincoat. No wonder daddy refused to put on one.

Day 2 Race Day. My total 7 hours break away from the kiddos.

We saw this babe on our way home. So suaku but can’t resist to take pic as I wanted to show it to Ryan. Thanks to the bumper to bumper jam, we managed a good pic. It’s his favourite Ferrari, the F430. Of course his latest craze is now F458

While the boys were out, I went to Ryan’s school alone for the teacher parent meet.

——–

I reached Ryan’s school at 1pm for the parents teacher meet. I spent about 30 – 45 minutes with his teacher discussing about Ryan’s overall progress. Frankly I have no doubt about the school’s excellence in character building but so much cannot be said when it comes to academic. I did not reserve my bluntness and told the teacher frankly how the school failed my expectation. It’s frustrating to hear from Ryan all they did in school was play bubbles, sing songs, art and craft, stories, as compared to other kids his age are learning who are already catching up on writing, counting, phonics etc.

I’m not trying to be overly competitive.. okay, maybe a little kiasu but I’m just being a realistic mommy. I’m not hoping to groom my kids into a genius with extraordinary achievements but I do have a set of realistic expectations that I think all preschool/kindergarten must achieve in terms of behavioural and academic. As much as I’m pleased with the behavioural improvement in Ryan since he attended this school (he’s more independent, more considerate when it comes to sharing), there must be a strike of balance on both enrichment. Unfortunately I’m not seeing that in Ryan’s current school. The most ironic thing was when I brought my concern up with the teacher, she totally agreed with me that the school’s focus is not academic. For examle. Ryan was already learning to write chinese ‘pi hua’ but in Ryan’s current school, they felt age 4 is too young to even hold a pencil. They will only learn proper writing at age 5.  She supported her point with a piece of research article that emphasises children of age 6 and below should not practise writing. Children age 6 – 7 should not write (hold a pencil) for more than 5 minutes. All due to the hand’s bone structure. I was dumbfounded and simply, I just kept my silence.

Anyway, Ryan’s overall feedback was good. He was above average and notably an all rounder. Teacher also commented there were occassions he imitated the Ultraman pose. When I heard that I bite my tongue trying hard not to laugh. Ryan does that at home all the time so I’m not surprised he did the same in school. Before wrapping up, I told the teacher my concern on Ryan being overly competitive when it comes to play (the cannot lose attitude). Well, since the school received so much rave on character building, I guess I’ll give them the task to help me out on that. Teacher assured me she will look into that and help change Ryan’s mindset on winning and losing. We’ll see how it goes in the coming months but likely we’ll send Ryan to a different pre school next year if we want him to have a better foundation for P1.

Busy Busy Busy

@ 43 months 2 weeks 2 days
BB2 @ (31 weeks 4 days)

Woohoo.. time flies. We have been in KL (for good) for slightly more than a month (we flew in on 28th Oct after spending 2 nights at Concorde Hotel in Singapore). Everything seem to have settled down into routine. We have completed all the unpacking and hubs too, got himself back into working life in KL (started his new job on the 2nd Nov). The month of Oct was literally jam packed with activities; the uprooting, packing and revisiting places (Night Safari, East Coast Park, Science Centre, Snow City, Pasir Ris Kids Kampong for Longkang Fishing, Sentosa – Insect Kingdom and Butterfly Park etc) that Ryan likes took up all our time.

Hubs’s last day of work was 15th Oct. The mad rush and limited time meant we did not get any holiday abroad which we had hoped for. :(

Back in KL. The first week was tough as neither hubs or me have gotten our ‘wheels’. FIL was hubs’ chauffeur for a week and after I got my car (11th Nov), I took over the chauffeuring task. That lasted another few days. Hubs collected his gem on 14th Nov. Driving in KL drained my brain juice. There’s a huge difference between driving in Singapore and in KL. Not to mention the traffic congestion around the clock. Phew.

Meanwhile, Ryan is adapting very well. Occassionally he tells us he misses his friends and teachers in Singapore but that’s about it. Kids are definitely more adaptable. I think he is enjoying the bigger space, the extra attention showered on him, and the freedom of not having to go to school and play all day at home.

We have registered Ryan with Seri Soka Kindergarten few months ago after knowing we would be back for good. We visited the school after our return for the so called assessment which the school required before the child is officially accepted into the school. Ryan was not very cooperative. The moment we told him we were visiting his ‘future’ school, he gave us the cold shoulder. He told us he doesn’t like KL school (he doesn’t even know how the school looks like then), he said he doesn’t like his KL friends, eventhough he has no indication who are they). At the school, we spent some time speaking with the person in charge while Ryan enjoyed his dose of playground. We were then brought around the school. Ryan was evidently less resistable and more open upon seeing the art work displayed outside the school’s classrooms. It’s not going to be an easy transition I know. I  just hope things would work out better than my expectation if we really do decide to go with this school. Till then, we will continue our search for an alternative; not because Seri Soka is not good. It just that we are exploring the private and international Primary schools around the area and it only make sense to send Ryan to the kindy offered by the school. Search in progress…..

It’s the school holiday here and it’ll be at least another month before he starts school. BB2 will be arriving soon and I really want to take the opportunity to spend more time with Ryan so I did not sign him up any holiday programmes. I DIY a stack of new phonic cards for Ryan. He has completed the 3 letter words ending ‘an, ap, at, am’. He progressed very well and we’ll be moving on to ‘as, ag, ax, ab’ and will follow up with the consonants.

He’s now into Wii and is addicted to playing games on hubs’ iphone. Months back, we thought of buying him a PSP but looking at the level of his addiction, we brushed the thought aside.

As for me.. I’m doing well. Visited my ob-gyn on the 21st Oct for my 2 weeks overdue 7th month checkup. It was an uneventful visit. BB2 was at 30 weeks by date however he recorded a gestational size of 32 weeks + 4 days and 1.9kg with head down position. I stepped on the scale and it showed 61.5kg. Another 3.5kg gain in 6 weeks. No wonder my tummy grew so much bigger in the last few weeks. I really do look like a walking whale now.

Side track. We went for On Hong Concert on 7th Nov (hubs’ birthday) at Genting Arena of Stars. It wasn’t a fantastic concert (duration was short and they really don’t have that many songs that I like) but they did sing some good 90s songs that I appreciated. So it was not bad. Not sure about hubs *evil* but at least I was entertained. That was pretty much how we celebrated his birthday.

In the background, the 20ft lorry the mover had arranged to transport our furnitures from SG – KL. We accumulated more than 40 boxes of ‘goods’ in our 2 years plus in SG.

Adios…..
